Bit By Bit Stable opened in 2006 in Uncasville, CT. Prior to that, we operated on a small (and I do mean small) piece of property in Ledyard. Mary had been searching for years for a piece of land to set up her dream farm and finally found it. Our current land used to be an old dairy farm but is now all about the horses.

The owner/trainer of Bit by Bit Stable is Mary Fischer. Mary has a strong background as an equestrian. She grew up in NJ about an hour from the USET (United States Equestrian Team) training center. This provided many opportunities to be coached by some of the best riders in the US. A member of pony club for 10 years, she was an Event rider in NJ. When she went to college she switched to hunter/equitation since that was what was available and competed on the Conn College Equestrian Team at the highest level for 4 years. Two of those years she was co-captain of the team. During college, she also competed internationally with the IIEG (International Intercollegiate Equestrian Group) for the USA and traveled to Belgium and Switzerland to compete in Dressage and Show Jumping. Also while at college, Mary volunteered at High Hopes in Old Lyme. After college Mary worked at High Hopes and obtained her advanced national certification through NARHA to teach therapeutic riding lessons to individuals with mental and physical disabilities.

Mary loves teaching. She has a BA in psychology and child development from Connecticut College and a Masters in Special Education from SSCU. She has 18 years of teaching experience in the arena and 10 in the classroom. Her goal is to help riders and horses to become the best team possible. A strong believer in the basics, Mary's philosophy is that by improving the rider, she improves the horse's way of going. Combining her two loves teaching and horses owning her own barn is a dream come true.
